Lend a helping hand improving and preserving Georgia’s priceless jewels…its state parks and historic sites! Included are MANY parks and historic sites related to the Civil War era. This is their most important volunteer day of the year! There will be cleaning and clearing of branches and debris, painting, small construction jobs and more as we work to make our state’s parks and historic sites beautiful and pristine! Etowah Indian Mounds 

Celebrate Your State Parks Day and National Public Lands Day by visiting Etowah Indian Mounds. Volunteers are encouraged to join our staff and Friends Chapter for our Annual Clean-up. registered Volunteers get Free Admission.

How the Terrapin Beat the Rabbit- Puppet Program at Etowah Indian Mounds

3-4:30  A short puppet show, starting with the Native American story “How the Terrapin Beat the Rabbit” followed by puppet making. The puppet show is free, but a small program fee applies to the puppet making. Registration is required due to limited space.

Registration limit on the puppet show is 60 due to theater size.  Registration to the puppet making class currently is 12 due to space constraints. A program fee, in addition to admission, of $4 applies to the puppet making class, and must be paid before the class begins.

New Echota Historic Site

9am-2pm. Join the park staff and Friends of New Echota volunteers at the park. Every year the park service designates a day where volunteers can give back to their local state park. Please wear your work clothes, bring your water bottle, gloves and pack a picnic lunch. Scouts and other groups need to call the park office to reserve a project. Event Phone: 706-624-1321


Pickett’s Mill Battlefield Historic Site

Come out and help support the Friends of Pickett’s Mill Battlefield State Historic Site. This year we will complete a beautification project; the implementation of a wildlife conservation project adjacent to our museum. No Admission charge for volunteers.

Please bring gloves. Drinks, snacks, and lunch provided. Historic Site admission fee will be waived for participating volunteers. Event Phone: 770-443-7850


Red Top Mountain State Park

10am-1pm. Help beautify Red Top Mountain State Park. We will be working to improve one of the most popular amenities at the park—the Outdoor Classroom! We will have projects for all ages. Wear clothes that you can get dirty! Bring gloves, water, and closed toed shoes. Meet us at 50 Lodge Rd SE, Acworth, Ga 30102.

You can bring shovels and rakes if you want. Friends of Red Top Mountain State Park will be running the program. Parking is FREE for volunteers! Inclement weather may cancelled this event. Event Phone: 770-975-0055


Rocky Mountain Recreation Area

Ranger led Hike around Lake Antioch finishing with the beautiful sunset at Rocky Mountain. This is a 3.1 mile hike, trail is easy to moderate. Meet at the Visitors Center at 5:30 PM. Hike starts at 6:00 PM Sharp. Parking fee: $5. Event Phone: 706-802-5087
