Memorial Day Service @ Coosa Valley Fairgrounds Palladium Building
May 26 – May 27 all-day
Starting on Sunday, there will be a display of military history at the fairgrounds furnished by Richard Riggs and Jack Martischnig.
The centerpiece of the display will be a locally made replica of the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. The display will be open from noon until 5 p.m. Sunday and again from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday, May 27 — Memorial Day.
Also on Monday, from 11 a.m. to 12:15 p.m., the Palladium building at the fairgrounds will host a Memorial Day observance ceremony to include guest speaker U.S. Army Col. Mark Viney, who is based out of Fort Knox, Kentucky.

Spirit of the Sun Festival

To highlight Rome’s natural beauty and the three rivers that run downtown, the DDA Promotions Committee is bringing full day of fun by the river, the 2nd Annual Spirit of the Sun Festival.

To kick off this fun-filled day at 7 a.m., there will be a fishing tournament, the Kingfisher Classic. Registration and information will soon be available at www.spiritofthesunromega.com.

The highlight of this day will be the Chieftain’s Challenge paddle race kicking off at 11 a.m. on Rome’s rivers. Must be 18+ to compete.

Sweetwater Brewery will be sponsoring the Sweetwater Barge. The Roman Holiday will serve as the barge and will be docked and boarding at Heritage Park and then travel to the river confluence to watch the races. More information will soon be available!

The race after-party at Bridgepoint Plaza will begin at 5 p.m. with awards and then will feature a FREE concert open to the public. Contrary to previous events at Bridgepoint Plaza, there will be no coolers or outside drinks allowed.

This celebration of our three rivers – the Oostanaula, Coosa, and Etowah – is created to encourage local citizens and visitors to take in the majesty of our rivers that run through downtown and enjoy our riverside walking paths and pedestrian bridges overlooking the racecourse. Of course, all of the downtown restaurants and shops will be available to shop and dine at all day.

Attached is the flyer highlighting the movies we will offer this summer. These free movies will run from June 6 – July 18 (no movies the week of July 4th) on Thursdays at 10 a.m. Doors will open at 9 a.m. Free tickets for this show are available at the door on the day of the show. The movies are free for both children and adults. Please do not bring in outside food or drink. Concessions will be available and each item is $2. If you are bringing a group of 10 or more and would like popcorn, please call us the day before so that we can prepare your order ahead of time and have it ready for you. Tellus is one of Georgia’s premiere science museums. Annually they hold a festival of Rocks and Minerals. There will be numerous special events in the museum. And there will be many rock, mineral and fossil dealers showing and selling their wares. Tellus will also host a mineral identification table. So, if you have rocks that you always wondered what they are, bring them along. Check out the Tellus Website for more info. Tellus Science Museum Rock Fest @ Tellus Science Museum

Tellus is one of Georgia’s premiere science museums. Annually they hold a festival of Rocks and Minerals. There will be numerous special events in the museum. And there will be many rock, mineral and fossil dealers showing and selling their wares. Tellus will also host a mineral identification table. So, if you have rocks that you always wondered what they are, bring them along. Check out the Tellus Website for more info. The Cobb County Gem and Mineral Society will also be represented at a table to tell visitors about our club and what we offer members and the community. Please stop by. Participate in Design-Build Challenges with The Children’s School

Become your own engineering superhero and solve a real world problem with The Children’s School. Check out student solutions to twelve different design challenges, and get inspired to design your own unique innovations using K’Nex. From fighting forest fires in California to maintaining sterile surgical supplies, you’ll have an opportunity to design for the greater good.

Be sure to also join us on the hour from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm for brief tours of Design for Good: Architecture for Everyone given by students from The Children’s School. Each curated tour experience will highlight the projects in the exhibition that the student’s find most inspiring.

There’s no charge to attend, but we ask that you register in advance to help us plan for the event!
